Types of Quadrilaterals

Parallelogram

A quadrilateral with opposite sides parallel and equal.

  • Opposite sides are parallel and equal
  • Opposite angles are equal
  • Consecutive angles are supplementary
  • Diagonals bisect each other

Rectangle

A parallelogram with four right angles.

  • All angles are 90 degrees
  • Opposite sides are parallel and equal
  • Diagonals are equal and bisect each other

Square

A rectangle with four equal sides.

  • All sides are equal
  • All angles are 90 degrees
  • Diagonals are equal and perpendicular

Rhombus

A parallelogram with four equal sides.

  • All sides are equal
  • Opposite angles are equal
  • Diagonals are perpendicular

Trapezoid

A quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel sides.

  • One pair of parallel sides (bases)
  • Non-parallel sides are called legs
  • If legs are equal, it's an isosceles trapezoid
